2025-2026 Subsidy Policy Deep Dive
As Hong Kong's population ages, the URA has further optimized the "Building Maintenance Grant Scheme for Needy Owners" for the 2025-2026 period. This grant is no longer just for seniors but has expanded to various vulnerable groups to ensure overall building safety.
The SafeHome team stays updated on the latest policies to help you navigate the complex application process and secure the maximum funding.
The Four Critical Rules You Must Know
Apply First, Work Later
This is the most common mistake. If work begins before receiving the URA "Approval-in-Principle," the subsidy will be forfeited.
10-Year, 4-Chance Rule
Each owner has up to 4 chances within 10 years to apply, up to a cumulative $80,000. You can renovate the bathroom now and windows later.
Ownership Proportion
The grant is calculated based on your ownership share. For example, if you own 50% of the property, your maximum grant is $40,000.
Top-up Mechanism
If you previously claimed the old $40,000 HKHS grant, you can still apply for the remaining $40,000 balance from the URA.
